ImageWhy Systemic Neurosciences?

How does our brain work? This is one of the most exciting questions of modern life sciences. Thus, neuroscience is one of the most rapidly growing fields of research. Our focus is a systemic point of view, without neglecting the molecular and cellular mechanisms. Examples of topics which are pursued within the GSN-LMU are:

  • Single cells to complex systems
  • System analysis to mathematical modeling
  • Perception and cognition to mind and philosophy
  • Biology to technical solutions

ImageWhy GSN-LMU?

The GSN-LMU is a faculty-indepenent institution which is governed as a distinct institution, by an interdisciplinary scientific board. At the GSN-LMU, you will receive the internationally accepted degree PhD. You will be part of a structured educational program, with strong scientific guidance and curricular workshops on complementary skills enhancing employability beyond research careers. Under the frame of the Munich Center for Neurosciences Brain & Mind, many renown researchers from the fields of neurobiology, medicine, physics and engineering, psychology and philosophy are members of GSN-LMU faculty. The GraduateCenter LMU additionally supports and enhances the complementary education of our graduate students.

ImageAm I Qualified?

If you have a genuine interest in neurosciences and seek interdisciplinary training in order to understand the brain as a whole, the GSN-LMU will offer you challenging interdisciplinary training. You must hold a BSc in biology, medical sciences, engineering, physics, bioinformatics, computersciences, psychology, philosophy or other related fields. Your average grade must be significantly above average. Especially promising candidates holding a BSc degree might be recommended for the PhD fast-track, linking the Master and the PhD program. If you wish to learn more about the main objective and curriculum of the master and the PhD program, including the fast-track option, please visit the school website www.mcn.lmu.de/gsn

If you have already started a doctoral research project in neuroscience within the last year, but would like to achieve a PhD degree according to the standards of the GSN-LMU regulations, you may also apply. In this case you should have secured funding for the time of your PhD project.
